Soft skills, transversal skills, and competencies related to Public Speaking

  1. INTRODUCTION:

Public speaking is a skill required in almost all areas of life, for instance, to promote ideas or support proposals and to convince others of your position. Regardless of the context or situation, it is therefore essential to develop an effective public speaking methods to communicate effectively and persuasively with others.

Public speaking skills are soft skills that showcase how well you can speak and engage your listeners. Influential public speakers have the power to persuade, inform and educate others. It helps you transfer opinions, motivate others and become a natural leader. Mastery of this skill can help you advance your career, increase confidence, improve leadership skills, develop vocabulary and ensure personal development. Two workshops are planned to be conducted under this module, in order to improve soft skills, transverial skills and competencies related to Public Speaking.

  1. WORKSHOPS

The workshops are basically split into two phases: a theoretical part, dedicated to the learning of required skills and strategies, and a practical part, aimed at the application of the notions acquired.

Workshop 1 ”Skills For Public Speaking” 
Objectives of the sessionUnderstand the public speaking skills.Be aware of recent developments in skills on Public Speaking.Have an overview of best skills for the public speaking.Have started planning the implementation of the skills on their Public Speaking experiences.To commute and increase public speaking skills’; – To boost the communicative efficiency. Have had the opportunity to develop a peer network in which they can discuss their ideas, questions, and problems on public speaking skills.
MethodologyNon-Formal Education (NFE), Trainer will Identify Public Speaking key skills and competencies with the support of presentation and videos from best speeches.
Timeframe10 min. introduction, 15 min. Networking, 120 min. teaching the skills, competencies related to public speaking (can be organized as 50 minutes teaching , with a 20 min break before the next session) —Coffee Break — 60 min. implementation and development (with speeches by participants), 35 min. evaluation and debriefing

ProcedureThe procedure of the workshop session will be described by steps:STEP 1: Welcome and Warm Up Team building and initial getting to know one anotherSTEP 2: IntroductionTrainer presentation, the trainer will briefly introduce the skills and competencies related to public speaking.STEP 3: NetworkingGetting to know each other – exchanging experiences and gathered skills in Public Speaking, Method: Speed Dating STEP 4 TeachingTrainer presentation and brainstorming. Trainer will highlight the principles for facial expression, vocal tone and body language, controlling voice and speed of talking, stress management, clear articulation, etc.STEP 5 ImplementationImprovisation of speeches based on preset parameters: role, message, goal, audience, duration, place. Identification of the positive aspects to retain and those it is advisable to modify or improve.STEP 6 Evaluation and Debriefing Plenary – trainer summarizes and gives feedback
Tips for Trainer



In the beginning the trainer will make a small presentation on what they are about to do or information needed for the participants so they can work efficiently. Then step by step should be described how are they going to work as a team.The workshop can take longer depending on the experiences and needs of different stakeholder groups. Consider allocating more time for specific aspects of the workshop if participants have little experience or there is a great need for discussion.

Workshop 2 ”Advanced Communication and Entrepreneurial Skills on Public Speaking” 
Objectives of the sessionUnderstand the advanced communication and entrepreneurial skills to become a good speechmaker.Be aware of importance of such skills area in entrepreneurial ecosystem.Have an overview on importance of the public speaking in start-up and entrepreneurial world.Have started planning the implementation of the advanced communication and entrepreneurial skills in both personal and business life.Have had the opportunity to develop a peer network in which they can discuss their ideas, questions, and problems.
MethodologyNon-Formal Education (NFE), Trainer will explain the most common skills by focusing on advanced communication and entrepreneurial skills with the support of presentation and videos from best exercises.
Timeframe10 min. introduction, 50 min. Networking and Practice, 100 min. teaching the skills, competencies related to public speaking (can be organized as 50 minutes teaching , with a 20 min break before the next session) —Coffee Break — 120 min. implementation and development (with speeches by participants, each participant will have two speech which will take 3-5 min. long), 40 min. evaluation and debriefing

  1. CONCLUSION

The expected results of the workshops are: having a good understanding of the skills needed to become a good speechmaker in entrepreneurial area, learn the techniques to improve the skills and competencies on public speaking, to enhance specific speaking skills, to commute and increase these skills’ applicability inside of an entrepreneurial approach, to boost the communicative efficiency, to help young adults in the process of personal and professional development. This module and workshops plans to develop the target group’s communicative skills, providing them with the tools and the techniques most suited to their personal traits.
